Our Approach

Here's where we begin and you fit in!

Illustration showing a house with a surrounding area labeled as '100’ defensible space.' Trees are spaced and trimmed to reduce fire spread, with instructions to plant space plants and shrubs. The diagram emphasizes maintaining a safe perimeter around the home in case of fire, with specific measurements from the house and chimney indicated.

  • ODS partners with Fire Science Programs at the Community Colleges and Universities to provide work experience for the next generation of firefighters.

  • In addition we will partner with the State Work Programs to help train those who want to build a career in the fire sciences.

Multiple Approaches to Mitigate Fuel Reduction

Our aim is to work year round by using several approaches to dealing with each fire level throughout the fire season.

  • Low/Medium Fire levels: With the supervision of local Fire Districts, we will use the traditional ‘slash and burn’ process to reduce fire latter fuels.

  • High Fire Level: To mitigate ladder fuel without burning, wood chippers will be used to remove brush and debris and transform it into mulch.
